Background – why a new radio communication solution was needed?

JD Sports approached the DCRS team with the need for help to reach a Nationwide Radio Solution requirement. A new radio solution was needed to ensure that the loss prevention team can stay in steady contact with team members located throughout the UK, as well as the main JD Sports Distribution Hub. The new systems had to be reliable when covering large areas, easy and efficient to use, as well as provide great audio quality, to avoid miscommunications from happening.

The Challenge

JD Sports teams wanted to take advantage of the advanced radio technology to ensure an efficient and reliable way to share information between teams.

It was important for the DCRS team to supply them with a solution to satisfy the present and future demands with a radio system that is easy to implement into the team’s workflow.

DCRS engineering team also had to ensure that the new two-way radio systems will be able to cover larger distances and provide ease of use, without sacrificing audio clarity. They also had to overcome busy channels, as the JD Sports distribution and security teams consist of many staff members. Prioritising real-time communication reliability was also crucial, as long delays in information exchange can make the operations less efficient.

The Results

After thorough testing and analysis, our engineers have identified and resolved all factors that may weaken the radio signal. We are proud to present the perfect radio solution that meets all of JD Sports’ criteria.

JD Sports purchased 20 TLK100 Push over Cellular devices, 1 WAVE Dispatch and 4 Mobile Phone Wave Apps following a successful trial. The team members provided positive feedback about the equipment during the project’s initial stages.

The system consists of 4 digital radio repeaters supplying JD Sports with an 8 Channel system with over 200 MOTOTRBO DP1400 hand portables for the warehouse teams and MOTOTRBO DP3000/DP4000 Series hand portables for the Security Team.

After a successful implementation of reliable radio systems within the teams, DCRS stayed as the go-to two-way radio supplier to the main JD Sports UK & European Distribution Hub until this day.
